The festival of Gudi Padwa is celebrated mainly in Maharashtra on the occasion of the beginning of the Hindu New Year. This year 2020 Gudi Padwa is on 25th March of Shukla Paksha Pratipada. And on this day Chaitra Navratri and Hindu New Year are also beginning. The festival of Gudi Padwa is celebrated mainly in the joy of the start of the new Samvatsar in Maharashtra. According to the Panchang, the new year begins on the Pratipada of the Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month and it is a custom to celebrate this festival on this day.

There are many stories related to Gudi Padwa which are found in Hindu Sanatan Dharma. One of these is the story of Ram Ji's victory over ravana. Bhagwan Ram started this victory festival by liberating the people from the misrule of baali of Sri Lanka. Since then, in every house, on the day of Gudi Padwa, Gudi which is symbol of Victory is hoisted. 

The coronation of Lord Rama and Maharaj Yudhishthira also took place on this day. According to mythology, the goddess Durga was also revealed on this day. 
In all the ages, the first satyuga was also established on this day. 
It is said that on the day of Shukla Pratipada of Chaitra month, Lord Brahma started the work of Vishwa rachana. Therefore, it is also called the  first day of creation.

According to Indian astrology, this time Gudi Padwa will be on March 25, which is also the date of Navratri. on the day of gudi padwa gudi (kind of flag) is hoisted. The house is cleaned and decorated with flowers. Flowers are tied on the doors of the house. Beautiful Rangoli is made at home and door. Puran Poli is made on this day which is famous dish of maharastra. Mango panna and sago khichdi are made and eaten. All dressed up in new and beautiful clothes . Everyone visits together to each others home and pray to god to strengthen and deepen their bonds.

How is Gudi Made

Gudi is specially made and hoisted in every house on the day of Gudi Padwa. Let us know how to make Gudi. 

A Bamboo Stick is taken to make Gudi. Bamboo sticks are placed on the right side of the main entrance of the house. Pleates of silk saree are made and tied on top of bamboo. Then it is decorated with garlands of marigold flowers. A garland of sweet sugar is also worn. A bunch of neem leaves are made and tied into sticks. And then a copper urn(kalash) is taken, which is washed and cleaned and made of swastika on it with red sandalwood or vermilion. Put it upside down on the stick.
