Why is Holi celebrated|| Holi story

There are many stories about Holi in the Puran about why Holi is celebrated. One of these stories is related to Shri Krishna, then a devotee Prahlad and another story is related to King Prithu.

Holi is also mentioned in Shivpuran which is of Shiva-Parvati. But the story of Hiranyakashyap Prahlad is associated with Holi. It is believed that Holi started only after this. Know what is the story of Holi and the reason for celebrating Holi festival.

According to the story of Holi, in ancient times there was a very evil king, named Hiranyakashyap. Hiranyakashyap was very wicked and egoistic. He hated the gods. Whoever worshiped other gods, Hiranyakashyap punished him. His entire subjects were troubled by his atrocities. Hiranyakashyap loved his younger brother who was slaughtered by Lord Vishnu. From then on, Hiranyakashyap began to consider Lord Vishnu as his enemy. To destroy Lord Vishnu, that monster pleased Brahma by doing austerity. He got a boon by Brahma ji after doing austerity.

What was this boon

Hiranyakashyap asked Brahma ji that no one on this earth could kill him. he can neither be killed in the day nor in the night. no one could kill him in the house, nor outside the house. neither animal could kill him, nor any human. he should not die by any weapon, nor by any weapon. his pride increased even more by getting the boon he desired from Brahma. after this, he started believing himself to be GOD. asked people to worship him too.

Birth of Prahlad

After some time a son was born to hiranyakashyap, whom he named Prahlad. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Hiranyakashyap many times prevented Prahlad from doing devotion to Vishnu. but Prahlad was completely different from his father. When he did not agree, he threatened Prahlad, not only that he also tortured many. Hiranyakashyap poisoned Prahlad, threw him from the mountain but nothing happened to Prahlad because he had the blessings of Lord Vishnu. Because of which he would have survived every time. Prahlad's faith in Lord Vishnu started increasing day by day. This made Hiranyakashyap even more cruel. In anger and arrogance, Hiranyakashyap made several plans to slaughter Prahlad.

Story of Holika Dahan

Holika is the sister of hiranyakashyap. she had the boon
that she could not burn in fire. Hiranyakashyap thought of taking advantage of this boon given to Holika. he made a plan. according to this plan, he placed Prahlad in the lap of Holika and set him on fire. Hiranyakashyap believed that Prahlad would die by burning in the fire while Holika would survive. but it happened the opposite.by the grace of lord Vishnu, Holika was burnt in the fire while devotee Prahlad survived. Holika Dahan is done one day before holi by burning Holika as evil.

Slaughter of Hiranyakashyap

After this, Lord Vishnu incarnated Narsingh to kill Hiranyakashyap. This incarnation of Lord Vishnu was neither human nor any animal. Hiranyakashyap was slaughtered neither during the day nor at night but in the evening. Neither was he slaughtered in the house nor outside, but was done on the frame of the house. In this way Lord Vishnu freed this world from the atrocities of Hiranyakashyap.

Holika Dahan is celebrated the next day of Holi, which is associated with Lord Krishna. Holi is celebrated in many ways in different parts of our country. So this was the story of celebrating Holi and Holika-Dahan. Holi festival is a festival of love and happiness. In such a way, make your whole life colorful with the colors of this festival.
